Using a very basic material that comes from the earth, sculpted into a shape that comes from the body, Christina Watka draws up undulating compositions that discuss fluidity, movement, lightness, and air.
In this process-based work, each Murmuration piece is sculpted by hand, using one quick motion with a knuckle, finger, or fist, similar to a single brushstroke by a painter. Throughout the creative process, each piece crosses the artist’s hands at least five times. Swelling across a wall, the collection of individuals feels like a swarm or build up of something natural that could take flight at any moment.
